Gail Ross, Esq.


The President of the Gail Ross Literary Agency, Gail Ross is a lawyer, publishing consultant, and literary agent. She negotiates with major publishers and producers in the sales and distribution of literary properties and their video, audio, film and other rights.    

Gail is also a partner in the law firm of Lichtman, Trister & Ross where, along with Karen Post, she focuses on the legal aspects of publishing and media law. In addition, she advises clients on copyright, libel, trademark, electronic publishing and licensing issues.  Gail writes and lectures frequently on publishing issues. She is the co-author of The Writer's Lawyer (Times Books), a definitive, practical guide to the law for writers and editors.

Howard Yoon

Howard Yoon is the Vice President and Editorial Director of the Gail Ross Literary Agency.  Howard began his publishing career 15 years ago as Gail’s literary assistant.  He has served as an agent, writer, and editor on numerous fiction and non-fiction book projects.  In 2000, he was the founder and president of an online venture, AuthorsOnline, and in 2003 he co-authored a business book, Begging for Change (HarperCollins) with Robert Egger, which won the McAdams Award for Best Book on the Nonprofit Sector.

As the agency’s editorial director, he works closely with authors to develop their book ideas into commercial successes.  As a literary agent, he is interested in nonfiction topics ranging from current events and politics to culture to religion and history, to smart business.  He is also looking for commercial fiction by published authors. 

Howard graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in English and Religious Studies.  An avid foodie, he is a featured columnist for NPR.org’s Kitchen Window series.

He is also currently teaching a narrative nonfiction writing class in the Masters of Journalism Program at Georgetown University.

Kara Baskin

Kara Baskin is the Development Editor at the Gail Ross Literary Agency. She knew she was destined to enter the publishing world in first grade, when she developed an unrequited passion for Johnny Tremain. Since then, her literary interests have expanded to include biographies, popular culture, business, psychology and mental health, American history, and film.

Today, she works one-on-one with authors to create their book proposals and serves as a collaborator on certain writing projects.  Her work has also appeared in Slate, the Washington Post, the Washingtonian, the New York Observer, and NPR.org. Her first book, Size Matters, with Dr. Harry Fisch (Crown), will come out next summer.

She majored in American Studies at Mount Holyoke College, where she was awarded the Louise Sproule Prize for excellence in writing. When not talking about herself in the third person, she can be found cooking, doing volunteer work, or frequenting the finest culinary establishments on the East Coast with her husband, Brian.

kelly dilworth

Kelly Dilworth is the Literary Assistant at Gail Ross Literary Agency. She reviews solicited and unsolicited submissions, edits book proposals and manuscripts for content and style, and assists in the publicity and promotion of authors' new titles.

Before joining GRLA, Kelly worked as an editorial intern at The Atlantic Monthly. A recovering serial intern, Kelly has also worked as an intern/assistant to Hendrik Hertzberg at The New Yorker and, later, as an editorial intern at The American Prospect. In 2006, Kelly worked as a research assistant to Richard Kahlenberg at The Century Foundation where she researched U.S. school districts pursuing socioeconomic integration.

Kelly’s literary interests are wide. However, she has a soft spot for Southern gothic literature, political biographies, incisive nonfiction narratives, and books on neuroscience. In addition, Kelly has a special interest in civil rights, education, and Eastern European history.  A native of South Texas, Kelly holds a B.A. in History, Literature, and Writing from Sarah Lawrence College and resides in Washington DC.

Jennifer Manguera

Jennifer has served as the Literary Manager of the Gail Ross Literary Agency for the past 7 years.  She oversees the daily affairs of the office, which includes handling the agency's submissions to publishers, coordinating contract, royalty, and financial paperwork with clients, and managing all unsolicited submissions. She is the gatekeeper of all things related to the agency's operations. 

Jennifer honed her book skills on her twin sister, a romance writer in the Seattle area.  She and her two fabulous daughters live in Silver Spring, MD.
