Team Bio

Gail Ross, Esq.

Gail Ross, President of the Gail Ross Literary Agency, says that each of her new projects must meet two criteria: it must make her daughters proud, and it must offset their college educations.  She sincerely believes the first phrase you'll see on this website:  Books Change Lives.

Gail represents important commercial nonfiction in a variety of areas and counts top doctors, CEO's, prize-winning journalists, and historians among her clients.  She and her team work closely with first-time authors and have earned a reputation in the industry for providing rigorous, enthusiastic editorial guidance at all stages of the publishing process.  Through the agency's blog and regular happy hours, she also encourages her writers to view themselves as members of a literary community, helping each other toward success.

Gail is also a media lawyer with Lichtman, Trister & Ross, where she advises individuals, companies and non-profits on copyright, publishing, new media and licensing.

Howard Yoon

Howard Yoon is the Vice President and Editorial Director of the Gail Ross Literary Agency.  Howard began his publishing career 15 years ago as Gail’s literary assistant.  He has served as an agent, writer, and editor on numerous fiction and non-fiction book projects.  In 2000, he was the founder and president of an online venture, AuthorsOnline, and in 2003 he co-authored a business book, Begging for Change (HarperCollins) with Robert Egger, which won the McAdams Award for Best Book on the Nonprofit Sector.

As the agency’s editorial director, he works closely with authors to develop their book ideas into commercial successes.  As a literary agent, he is interested in nonfiction topics ranging from current events and politics to culture to religion and history, to smart business.  He is also looking for commercial fiction by published authors.

He is also currently teaching a narrative nonfiction writing class in the Masters of Journalism Program at Georgetown University.

Anna Sproul

Anna Sproul is the Literary Assistant at the Gail Ross Literary Agency. She reviews solicited and unsolicited manuscripts, edits clients' proposals, and helps promote authors' new titles.

A former Gail Ross intern, Anna has worked for agencies in the US and UK as well as a publishing house in New York. Her interests are varied and for the most part embarrassing (fashion retail, aerospace, postwar English poetry, a good obituary) - but she will read anything.

Anna holds a BA in English from Columbia University and a master's in the same from the University of Oxford.
